Bridges & Crowns
Bridges are fixed (non-removable) appliances and are an excellent way to replace missing teeth. Crowns restore cracked or decayed teeth. A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape and size.
Bruxism (teeth grinding) can cause long-term damage to teeth, from moderate to severe. Constant grinding wears down the surface of the tooth, exposing the soft dentin beneath the enamel.
Implants are metal devices designed to replace missing teeth. The devices are usually made out of titanium and are surgically placed into the jawbone where the tooth is missing. Unlike a dental bridge, an implant is permanent.
Fillings are used to restore areas of your tooth affected by decay. Dentists use both amalgam (silver) and composite (tooth-colored) materials to "fill in" the surface of the tooth after all decay has been removed.
A "root canal," or endodontic therapy, is a procedure available to save a tooth that is infected and would otherwise require extraction. There are many reasons that teeth can become infected including cavities, previous large fillings, crowns, cracks, trauma and extreme wear.
When your TMJ (temporomandibular joint) is misaligned, you may experience headaches, extreme pain in the jaw, and ear or sinus infections.
Wisdom teeth that are not removed should continue to be monitored, because they could potentially cause issues in the future. As with many other health conditions, as people age, they are at greater risk for health problems and that includes potential problems with their wisdom teeth.
