Dental Implants:
Replace Missing Teeth

At Crafton Dental we believe in giving our patients the very best in dental restorations, which is why we offer dental implants. Dental implants are the most impressive advancement in tooth replacement in history. Most tooth replacement options, like crowns, dental bridges, and dentures only function to replace the crown (chewing portion) of the tooth but neglect the missing root of the lost tooth. Dental implants restore the form and function of every single part of your tooth to help keep your mouth happy and healthy.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are tooth replacement options that restore every part of your missing teeth, from root to crown. A dental implant can be used to restore a single missing tooth (crown), a row of missing teeth (a dental bridge), or a full arch of missing teeth (implant supported dentures). Dental implants are surgically placed into your jaw and are allowed to heal for a few months before they are finished.

Parts of a Dental Implant

Dental implants are made up of three separate parts: the post, abutment, and dental restoration. The post is the first part of the implant to be placed, which requires some minor surgery. The implant post is made of titanium because titanium is a biocompatible material that is not rejected by the body. The bone in your jaw will osseointegrate with the titanium implant post, which means it will grow around it and form a strong mechanical bond that will allow you to use the implant as you would your natural teeth.

The abutment is placed onto the post after the post has had some time to heal. It is screwed into the top of the post and cemented in place permanently using a dental adhesive.

The dental restoration is made in our dental laboratory while the implant post is healing in your jaw. We can craft the restoration out of a wide variety of material that we select based on the tooth/teeth we are restoring and their function in your mouth. The final implant restoration will be indistinguishable from your natural teeth and will last you for many years, allowing you to eat and speak as you did before tooth loss. Sometimes, we may need to make repairs to an implant or crown that has been previously been placed.

Contact Us About Dental Implants

If you have a missing tooth or have a tooth that needs to be removed, a dental implant may be the best tooth replacement option for you. Contact us at (410) 381-5030, and we will be happy to schedule a consultation visit and review your options.

At times, the tooth requiring treatment will require a specialist, called a periodontist, to examine and complete the treatment. Dr. Lisa Crafton will work closely with our periodontist specialist to review your treatment case and send necessary records to their office. Our office staff will help coordinate your appointments, and help you understand your financial responsibility.
